Tiger Zinda Hai Story

It’s inspired by the real-life incident of the rescue of Indian nurses held hostage in Iraq by terrorists and at the helm of affairs of the mission is Indian RAW agent Tiger (Salman Khan).

Tiger Zinda Hai Review

The story picks up from where the first film in the franchise left off. Indian RAW agent Tiger (Salman Khan) and ISI agent Zoya (Katrina Kaif) are married and living a peaceful life with their son. Eight years have gone by since they decided to choose love over their missions. But their plans will change very soon, with another mission (most impossible) coming up for this sota hua Tiger.

Tiger Zinda Hai : This Tiger is alive and kickingTiger’s ex-boss Shenoy (Girish Karnad) tracks him down and wants him to rescue 25 Indian nurses who are held hostage at a hospital by a dreaded terrorist organisation that has taken over Iraq. From here, it’s a Salman Khan show all the way with his star power and screen presence looming large, ably aided by Katrina Kaif who jumps into the fray as 15 Pakistani nurses who are also held hostage with the Indians need to be rescued. The other USP of this mission is, that Tiger brings together Indian and Pakistani agents to fight terror in Iraq, for the sake of humanity. And, not surprising then that there is a fair sprinkle of patriotic one-liners, too. And all this is happening with oodles of swag and style. (Obviously!)

The film is visually stunning in parts and Salman Khan plays Tiger with roaring confidence and dialogues packed with punch. Of course, his fans get a true-blue Salman Khan moment when he bares his torso. However, the screenplay often loses focus, slackening the film’s pace and our attention. Director Ali Abbas Zafar had a lot of ammo in hand, with the star power of Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif adding to that. But the direction falters and he is unable to keep you riveted through the film’s runtime. Supporting actors that make up the rescue mission team are competent and Paresh Rawal delivers a dependable performance. Katrina Kaif gets into action-girl mode, displaying some kick-ass stunts. Meanwhile, the antagonist, Abu Usman (Sajjad Delafrooz), heading the terrorist organisation, is effective in his role.

With such a premise, the storyline needed to be far more compelling and the editing much tauter. Needless to add, a lot of sequences defy logic, but at the same time, there are many moments that will leave Salman Khan and action film fans impressed.

Whether Tiger is Zinda or not for the next round, that’s for you to find out.

Monsoon Shootout Movie Review: An Artsy Psychological Thriller. Set in the dark lanes of Mumbai, Amit Kumar’s Monsoon Shootout is a mash-up of many a significant element required to build up a neo-noir police-criminal-drama cum psychological thriller. A dedicated greenhorn, an experienced encounter specialist senior, a suspected criminal, a hungry for power politician, a grieving wife and an innocent young boy make up the players.

The story is of Adi (Vijay Varma), who is being sent out on his first criminal case, headed by an inspector Khan (Neeraj Kabi) who believes in the no-custody ideology. As the events unfold, Adi finds himself face-to-face with Shiva, the suspect (Nawazuddin Siddiqui). Right in the beginning his mother reminds him of a lesson his father used to preach- there are three ways to act on a thing- right, wrong and the in-between one, and that sets the tone of the scenes to follow and the words echo in Adi’s mind long after his father is gone.

Is he the man behind extortion killing? Or just a passer-by? What if he’s innocent and ends up bearing the brunt of someone else’s crime? Should he shoot him? Should he not? Or should he take him in the custody?

Adi’s moral dilemma of which path to choose sets the foundation stone of the plot. The makers experiment with the same plot with three different actions and hence, three different consequences. In the first one, Adi does not pull the trigger and eventually, havoc is set free for which Adi too, ends up paying a hefty personal price. In the second one, he does pull the trigger but the moral dilemma of whether he killed an innocent man or actually got hold of the criminal- clouds his mind. The third sees Adi following the rule book but does that help in setting the case straight?

An artsy style of narrating a story is always welcome and in this case, is also intriguing. Certain scenes like a sculpted Ganesha idol falling in the backdrop of wrongdoings in a household or an intrinsic fear developing in the mind of a young boy over crossing a sheep tied to the fences further enrich the story-telling experience.

The fine camerawork by Rajeev Ravi captures the backdrop of the infamous Mumbai monsoon in depth and makes it a thrilling character in itself. As the film turns back to the deciding moment thrice in its course, the monsoon plays like a metaphor to the blurry thoughts, quandary and the uncertainty in Adi’s mind.

Vijay as a rookie cop is convincing except for a few parts wherein both Nawazuddin and Neeraj outshine him. A certain earnestness in his performance, however, helps him hold his own. Contrary to expectations, Nawazuddin’s character is secondary to Vijay’s Adi and while he is impressive in parts, the film doesn’t get the better of him. Neeraj shows his finesse and delivers a strong performance throughout. While Tannishtha (Shiva’s wife) and Geetanjali (Adi’s love interest) both have only small roles in the film, Sreejita De’s role of Shiva’s mistress have a significant hand in the consequences of the varied depictions.

But what dilutes the impact of the narration and a dependable cast is the familiarity of the account chosen to represent a significant psychological aspect. The basic idea that a do-gooder-rulebook-greenhorn is pulled down by the internal politics and corruption in the system overshadows the potential impressive psycho-cosmic angle of human decision making in the larger scheme of things. And ultimately gives this film a certain delusional greatness towards the climax. So what could’ve been a thrilling masterpiece remains an artsy thriller in search of a better plot.

Review

This film billed as an ‘Erotic Suspense Thriller’ directed by Paresh Vinodray Savani is about a bold and beautiful Con Girl, Sanaaya Savitri (Gurleen Chopra) entrapped in the Game of Life. She is the one preying on older men, but the repercussions leave her winded and her attempt to go to the next level gets thwarted every time. To get to the finish becomes the challenge and the slanted narrative is mainly about her attempts to thwart the forces hindering her ascendancy.

We’ve seen this kind of a plot being laid out a thousand times. There’s nothing new here to interest a jaded audience and the performances are unlikely to make you sit up and take notice either. The writing is vainglorious, unable to make any coherence or appear leastways plausible.

Despite the stalwart talent like Rajesh Sharma, playing a widower billionaire and Yashpal Sharma as Pandurang Kadam, the film fails to make any head-way in terms of entertainment value or receptivity. This is merely a corrupted attempt to score with the ‘B’ circuit audience. Multiplexes are sure to shun it out of the theatres.

Fukrey Returns : Movie Review.

Fukrey Returns Story

Just as Hunny (Pulkit Samrat), Choocha (Varun Sharma), Lali (Manjot Singh) and Zafar (Ali Fazal) are reaping the fruits of their misadventures from one year back; they are pulled up by the dreaded don, Lali. She is back from prison early and wants to continue from where they left off.

Fukrey Returns Review

To watch ‘Fukrey Returns’, you don’t necessarily have to watch the first part, because the director clearly explains the entire story in the opening credits. However, it’s a fun film which we recommend you watch. So is this one. In fact it is funnier than the first part. That familiar craziness you’ve seen in the characters is not just back; it has doubled, in fact.

This time, Lali is out of prison and she is broke. She wants a lot more cash from them and once again uses their special skills to fill her coffers and repay the scheming politician Bhatia who secured her early release. As always, their scheme to pay Lali goes awry and they are dragged in deeper as newer villains emerge who also want a piece of the action.

The strongest aspects of the film are the performances. And once again, the scene stealer is Varun Sharma as Choocha, the affable weirdo with superpowers to watch bizarre dreams which win him a lottery. In this one, his powers have evolved, but sadly his mind hasn’t and he still pronounces Goa as Goya and still can’t get over the fact that Lali does not love him. The real surprise is the measured comedic performance by Pankaj Tripathi as Panditji, the scheming college watchman. With his terrific comic timing, he leaves you in splits in a majority of the scenes which he is in. The rest of the cast, too, have essayed their roles perfectly. The second half is plot-heavy and feels a bit stretched out. However, the jokes keep coming which make it bearable.

Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani with director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba have created a successful franchise, and there is ample scope to make a Fukrey 3, but this time, we hope it doesn’t take them four years to do so.

Priyanka Chopra : one of the TIME magazine's 100 most influential people

From starring in Indian films to a hit American TV show, framed on the cover page and named as one of the TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people, completing 50 movies and now creating history in Hollywood by keeping that Indian flag high – none other than Priyanka Chopra, also called as “piggy chops”. Former Miss world and model turned actress’s career zoomed into an another orbit. Currently, she is not only an actor but a singer, writer, columnist, philanthropist, and producer. Self-made women, who achieved everything based on merit and not on networking. she never had any godfathers to play a role of nepotism and today she is one of the highest paid actresses. From Bollywood to Hollywood she is all over in entertainment industry and so I say PC is not only an actor but an achiever.

ORIGIN :

Ms. Chopra was born on 18th July 1982 in Jamshedpur, a city in Jharkhand. Chopra family was well educated. During Priyanka’s childhood, both her parents were working as doctors in Indian army. Her father Mr. Ashok Chopra was a surgeon and her mother Mrs. Madhu Chopra is a gynecologist. Chopra started her schooling at la Martiniere girls school in Lucknow. As her parents were serving the army, the family had to shift many times in different parts of India, like Lucknow, Bareilly, Ambala. During vacations, Priyanka visited her Aunt and cousins in the United States and she was selected in IQ test conducted by a school and approached Chopra to join their school. At the age of thirteen PC joined newton north high school in Massachusetts.

Priyanka Chopra : one of the TIME magazine's 100 most influential people

KICKSTART: FAME AT THE AGE OF 17

During her schooling in the United States, she faced a lot of racism because of her brown skin tone. Chopra was bullied and made fun of her outer appearance. After three years she came back to India and joined a college in Bareilly for higher education. Priyanka was academically inclined and wanted to peruse her career in aeronautical engineering but destiny had something else for her. It all started when Priyanka won a beauty contest “My Queen”. Later, One of the local photographers clicked some good stylish pictures of Priyanka and it came out to be glamorous. Moreover, those pictures were sent to Miss India contest by her mother and Priyanka was not only selected but she won the contest, became Femina Miss India 2000. In the same year, she was also crowned as Miss World. Winning the title of Miss world continental queen of beauty which describes the winner as the most beautiful women in the world. she was the fifth Indian contestant to win Miss World in seven years.

BOLLYWOOD SUCCESS:

Miss World titles brought her recognition and she then began receiving film offers. Her first on-screen appearance was in a Tamil film “Thamizhan” in 2002. In 2003, she did her Bollywood debut “the hero: the love story of a spy”. She gave her first hit in an Abbas-Mustan movie “Aitraaz”. Being a beginner she performed a very bold and sensual role which was widely loved and also won a Filmfare award for best performance in a negative role. In just a few years, her fate started shining like a star in Bollywood, Priyanka was termed as the versatile actress. In 2009, her name appeared in Guinness book of world record for being the first female who played 12 different kinds of role in a single movie- “what’s your rashee ?”. Priyanka played a role of the boxer in a biographical sports film “Mary Kom”. For that role, she had to undergo a rigid physically training, building muscles to look like a boxer. The film won a national award but Sadly, Priyanka’s father was not there to witness her success. he died due to cancer. Priyanka was very close to her father but that didn’t stop her and she was immediately back to work. Her learning attitude never stopped which believed directors in giving her the toughest roles, “Barfi” was one of them. The glamorous Chopra played a role of an autistic girl and depicting love for her guy with no dialogues.

TURNING POINT:

Priyanka always believed in experimenting and taking up challenging roles. In 2008, a female oriented movie “fashion” by Madhur Bhandarkar which had Priyanka Chopra in the lead role was a box office hit. Before the release, the movie was critically acclaimed that it will not work because of no hero in the lead role but Chopra breaking the stereotypes won a Filmfare award for the best actress and national award for “fashion” and from there, her journey began, from nowhere to somewhere.

TICKET TO HOLLYWOOD:

From Mumbai to Manhattan it’s an eventful journey. Chopra always had a great interest in singing. She had sung in few movies but her music career boomed when her single debut “in my city” was launched. She was the first Bollywood actress, signed by CAA (creative artist agency) based in LA. As a recording artist, she released two more singles. Later she was assigned a lead role in ABC (television network) show “Quantico”. Americans loved protagonist “Alex Parrish”. Quantico is a thriller action series where PC plays a role of an FBI agent. Within a year she was appreciated and accepted widely by the Americans. This is not it, the queen of Bollywood is about to make her debut in Hollywood as a villain in “Baywatch” working with the amazing bunch of people. One of them is Dwayne Johnson. After this news, she is all over in American talk shows. As the Baywatch trailer shows the glimpse of Priyanka Chopra, people are looking forward to seeing her in sexist villain avatar.

ACHIEVEMENTS :

Needless to say, she has won a lot of Filmfare & IIFA awards for best actress but recently she was honored with the Padma Shri. Priyanka is the first South Asian women to play a lead character in American network series. She was on the cover page on the TIME magazine with her name among most influential people in the world, winning people’s choice award consistently two times is something big and incredible where she was nominated against the extremely talented united states actresses. Priyanka is among Forbes list of world’s highest paid TV actress. She is the only Indian in the USA, to have been selected for the national opus honor choir as Chopra huge into charity world. She was also a part of UNICEF for 10 years in India and now has extended it globally. Priyanka was invited for dinner by the US president Barack Obama, where Michelle Obama approached Priyanka to work with her on the girl education.

LEARNINGS :

“I don’t want to have a label, I want to have a legacy, ” says it all.
• PC came into an acting career by fluke but she focused her mind on it to became a great actor. So whatever one does should be done wholeheartedly and one will definitely succeed.
• This learning is my personal favorite, Chopra was bullied in teenage because of her skin tone. But today the girl with that skin tone is glamorous. What makes you different from others that are exactly what is special and unique about you. BASICALLY, BE THE BEST VERSION OF YOURSELF.
• For Priyanka, success is not just bunch of hit movies. You are said to be successful when you are consistent in it. Failures are part of it but you need to be consistent to compensate those because success is a journey.
• Taking up challenges is Priyanka’s forte. Challenge yourself, the harder the better. When someone says you can’t do this and that’s the one thing you should definitely do. Destiny and hard work go hand in hand, God helps them who helps themselves.

Her inspiring words – “I was very much fascinated when I joined showbiz and I found so many sad stories of Superstars downfall. It is going to happen with everyone, so I am not afraid of failures. I just know that I always have a backup plan before I take up anything new. Creativity can be molded to so many things. There are gazillion things you can do as a creative person”.

Being a girl what I like about her is that she is never apologetic about being an extreme proud feminist, as she always says “feminism is about making choices, without being judged, just like men have since so many years.” A lot of people, especially guys gets irritated because feminism has got such a bad name. It’s not about demeaning men, it’s about equality.

Firangi Review: Kapil Sharma is not funny at all

Firangi Story

Set in 1921 pre-independent India, this limited budget period film is a languid love story served with a pinch of patriotism.

Firangi Review

One thing’s clear. With his second outing in the movies, Kapil Sharma wants to desperately drive home a point that he has no interest in milking his comic talent in the movies.

While it’s a ballsy move for a successful comedian to explore other genres, the question is, are his fans ready for it and can he do it convincingly? Not really, when he wears one expression (lack of interest) on his face, throughout the film.

Watching Kapil act innocent and robotically romance a much younger looking Ishita Dutta (last seen in Drishyam), who channels her inner Amrita Rao for almost three hours is hard to sit through. Unfortunately, the film’s massive runtime is not its only drawback.

The plot is heavily borrowed from Lagaan. Like Bhuvan (Aamir Khan), Manga (Kapil Sharma) must lead a group of villagers to challenge a British officer Mark Daniels (Edward Sonnenblick, modelled on captain Russell) with the help of his kind romantic interest Shyamli (Monica Gill, like Russell’s sister Elizabeth). Ishita Dutta plays Sargi, like Gracy Singh’s character Gauri. Mark wants to forcibly vacate Sargi’s village for financial gains and Manga must protect the land to win over Sargi’s parents.

Even if you ignore the ‘inspired content’, a period film deserves to be made on a certain scale and with some authenticity. Firangi has neither. All villages look the same and you see the same 15 people roaming everywhere. The costumes and accents are inconsistent. The British sound American, a London returned Indian princess (Monica Gill) dresses and acts more British than the British. She speaks to her fellow Indians in English and with the British in Hindi. The evil Indian king (Kumud Mishra) is neither funny nor menacing. The only actors who look logical and put in some effort to their characters are Edward Sonnenblick and Anjan Srivastav (as Gandhi bhakt). They try to infuse some method to the unending madness.

Eventually, Firangi moves at a snail’s pace leading us to a semi-fun climax. Sadly, the film doesn’t even fall into ‘so bad, it’s good’ category. It is outright boring and thus not even perversely entertaining.

Sunny Leone’s ‘Tera Intezaar’ trailer  soon started trending on the internet. The film also stars Arbaaz Khan in the lead role.

The film’s plot seems simple. Arbaaz paints the woman of his dream, and he finds his dream girl in Sunny Leone. Their chemistry on-screen is too hot to handle. They fall head over heels in love but Sunny’s past catches up with her, and then Arbaaz goes missing.

Watch trailer here:

The film will show Sunny Leone from a very different perspective and angle. You will see Sunny like you have never seen before. She has delivered her best performance and has put her heart and soul in the character of Rounak.”

And of Arbaaz, Rajeev said, “Arbaaz Khan is indeed a director’s actor and is absolutely professional and down-to-earth. Despite being a director himself and coming from such an illustrious family, he trusted my vision completely.”

Lyrics

I wasn’t just broken, I was shattered
I trusted you so much, you’re all that mattered
You no longer love me, and I sang like a sad bird
I couldn’t move on, and I think you were flattered

Oh! Life’s about joy, life’s about pain
It’s all about forgiving, and the will to walk away
I’m ready to be loved, and love the way I should
Life’s about, life’s about to get good

Oh! Life’s about to get good
Oh! Life’s about to get good
Oh! Life’s about to get good

The longer my tears fell, the wider the river
(Did you love me, baby?)
It killed me that you’d give your life to be with her
(Did you love me, baby?)
I had to believe that things would get better
(Better, bet…)
It was time to forget you forever

Oh! Life’s about joy, life’s about pain
It’s all about forgiving, and the will to walk away
I’m ready to be loved, and love the way I should
Life’s about, life’s about to get good

Oh! Life’s about to get good
Oh! Life’s about to get good
Oh! Life’s about to get good

Oh! Life’s about to get good
Oh! Life’s about to get good
Oh! Life’s about to get good

It took me so long to be strong
But I’m alive, and I hold on
To what I can feel, it hurts to heal
Oh, when love lies

(About to get good)
(About to get good)
(About to get… Ahhh)

Life’s about joy (So much joy, yeah), life’s about pain
It’s all about forgiving, and the will to walk away
(Oh, the will to walk away)
I’m ready to be loved, and love the way I should
(I wanna be loved the way I should)
Life’s about, life’s about to get good

Oh! Life’s about to get good
Oh! Life’s about to get good (Life’s about to get good)
Oh! Life’s about to get good

Oh! Life’s about to get good
